Commemorative Dates

These dates are not to be taken as Hawaii state holidays but are recognized by the Hawaii Revised Statutes §8.

Notes

Footnotes: As of September 2001, these are the legal holidays defined in the Hawaii Revised Statutes §8-1 to be observed by the State (and county governments in Hawaii), including the State Judiciary. Federal government and local banking holidays differ, such as for Juneteenth. Public school “breaks” are not included and may vary by district. For State agencies which operate on other than Monday-Friday schedules, also refer to appropriate collective bargaining agreements. Except for Easter, holidays which fall on Saturdays are observed on the preceding Friday; holidays which fall on Sundays are observed on the following Monday. Election days are established by the State Constitution.

Good Friday & Prince Kūhiō Day

Normally, Good Friday is observed after Prince Kūhiō Day, however this is not always the case due to Easter floating around. In 2005, 2016, 2027 and 2032, the two holidays are observed on the same day. Special arrangements may be made by Human Resources to allow for an additional holiday when this occurs.
